Elderly Abuse
Did you know that a recent congressional report revealed that 5283 U.S. nursing homes (more than 30%,) were cited for violations of abuse AND neglect!
Elderly Abuse can be defined as ANY knowing, intentional or negligent act by a caregiver, or any person that causes harm (physical, mental, sexual, emotional,) or exploits an otherwise vulnerable adult.
KNOW THE SIGNS?
(While one sign or symptom may not indicate abuse, multiple signs are strong indicators, and should be professionally investigated immediately!)
- Bruises, pressure marks, broken bones, abrasions, and possible signs of physical abuse.
- Unexplained withdrawl from normal activities
- Disassociation from reality, or changes in alertness
- Dementia can be a sign of mental abuse
- Bruising around genitalia
- Sudden changes in financial status
- Bed sores, or unattended medical needs
- poor hygeine
- Extreme or rapid weight loss
- Over or under abundance of medication
